I was very excited to try this shibori folding and tying technique. It worked! I found this 100% silk top at the thrift store, made the coffee dye from saved coffee grounds, and let the top soak in the dye for several hours. There are numerous shibori folding, tying, clamping, and twisting techniques but this simple accordion triangle fold was my choice. The coffee dye has stayed very true to its original color showing more colorfastness and lightfastness than any previous dyes on plant materials. This coffee dye on silk did not use a mordant. More shibori dye on silk in my future, I’m certain.
