Handmade: Dye & Design Sundress
I dyed, designed, and sewed this garment from beginning to end. I dyed the white cotton fabric with indigo and various Shibori dyeing techniques then created a simple sundress pattern built around the dye prints. (I cut each print in a manner that best highlighted that section of dyed fabric.) I made this dress without using a conventional pattern but instead built it piece by piece using my own measurements, improvisation, and embracing slow fashion. The tag is handmade, the right pocket depicts my horoscope constellation (Capricorn) in French knots, and the left pocket hides an original silkscreen poem inside. Read this blog post to get a deeper insight into my design process and why I think it’s important to embrace improvisation.
