I love Sonya Philip’s simple and original patterns so I was thrilled to see her pattern offered in a recent issue of Taproot magazine. This pattern was really simple to make (aside from my challenges in trying to make French seams, which I ultimately abandoned as the bulk in the armpit was too much) and also is very satisfying to wear. I wanted to add a few embellishments to the simple pattern so I used this beautiful African printed fabric as the trim and added an original silkscreen printed poem to the pocket. I admit it–this tunic has quickly become a wardrobe staple. I can’t wait to make more.
