A small gathering of San Francisco Bay Area textile artists gathered at the Sonoma home of artist, Kathryn Clark, for a backyard indigo dye party. We brought our own fabrics to dye but Kathryn lovingly prepared the dye vat, organized the gathering, and supplied all materials for shibori techniques such as clothespins, sticks, twine, rocks, and other binding materials. The results of the shibori were as varied as the participants and really allowed for the artists to make their fabrics unique. I dyed several pieces of cotton, linen, and a thrifted dress. When using natural dyes natural fabrics work best–linen, cotton, silk, or wool. For more details about the dyeing party, visit my blog.
