Determined to prolong the life of my favorite jeans–I learned to darn and how to properly fix a broken belt loop. Instructed by Kristin Roach’s wonderful book, Mend It Better, I learned to darn the growing hole in the knee of a pair of jeans. It turns out that darning is actually an enjoyable process that teaches about the weft and warp of fibers necessary for weaving. And while I’ve fixed several belt loops in my life, I never thought to patch the loop from the inside so that the fixed loop has something sturdy to stitch against. Denim just grew a longer shelf life in my closet.
