Onion Skin on Wool

Onion Skin on Wool

I’ve been loving all these experiments with natural dyes. It feels like a natural fit for my creative work and I’m so inspired by all the natural dye experts, methods, recipes, and all the infinite ways the dyes can react to different fibers, mordants, and even soak times. This natural dye experiment is one of my most successful yet. It’s onion skins on white wool without a mordant. The wool sweater was a gift from my mother years ago and while I loved the texture I just couldn’t find a place in my wardrobe for a non-washable white. It sat in a basket in the corner of my closet for months, maybe years. Once I dyed this sweater in onion skin I instantly fell in love with it. It’s become a staple in my wardrobe ever since. I also tapered the sleeves at the wrist as they flared a bit too much for my liking. Read more about this dye experiment on my blog.
