Inspired to push myself to include text into this collection of handmade clothing–I wrote and designed labels and poetry tags on linen. Printed by my talented friend, Jen Hewett, these tags are printed on 100% linen fabric with gray ink–printed in Jen’s studio alongside her handmade creations. Interested to push this work into the interdisciplinary by adding text to these creations, I want to slow down and focus on the details.
Adding original poems to the inside side seams, or subtly sewing a poem into the inside of a pocket, I’m interested to push this handmade clothing into the intersection of textile, art, fashion, and text. Thinking back to my Dresses/ Objects Project in 2010 that centered on poetry, textiles, and installation, I was honored to be included in the recent issue of The Volta–inspiring me to push text back into my interdisciplinary work. I like to think of this as “text/ile”, if you will. Read more about the labels and fusion of text and textile on my blog.
