I created this dress in a dressmaking workshop with Sonya Philip of the project, 100 Acts of Sewing. We used Sonya’s original pattern to make a simple smock dress that participants completed after class. The one-day workshop covered the ins and outs of making Sonya’s pattern complete with basic instruction about original dress design and machine vs. hand stitched bindings. The primary fabric for the dress is from Lotta Jansdotter’s fabric design line and the binding fabric is designed by Anna Maria Horner–two contemporary artists/ designers producing modern fabric designs. The bindings are all hand-stitched and the bodice is all machine stitched. Read more details about the making of this dress on my blog.
